Classes

AERIAL SILKS

Aerial Silks classes will learn skills and performance concepts on silks. Spinning techniques, transitions, shapes, inverts, drops, and well as an emphasis on graceful movements and dance concepts will be a part of this class. Classes will incorporate stretching and conditioning in order to prepare the student for more advanced techniques. Advanced students will be given opportunities for public performances. Private lessons are available for individuals who would like one-on-one instruction. All instructors are professional performers and are background checked and are first aid and CPR certified.

LYRA

Lyra class participants will learn skills and performance concepts on lyra. Spinning techniques, transitions, shapes, inverts, lyra skills, as well as an emphasis on graceful movements and dance concepts will be a part of this class. Classes will incorporate stretching and conditioning in order to prepare the student for more advanced techniques. Advanced students will be given opportunities for public performances. Private lessons are available for individuals who would like one-on-one instruction. All instructors are professional performers and are background checked and are first aid and CPR certified.

Tuition is $75 for the month and it includes 1 class a week for a total of 4 classes a month. Tuition is based off of 4 classes per month.  Some months may have 3 and some may have 5, but over the course of the year, the average amount of classes per month with be 4 or greater. All classes are taught by experienced aerialists that have performed professionally. Private lessons are also available. The first time you arrive at the GCTP facility, please fill out the waiver and then check in with the front desk.  You will receive a pair of GCTP socks and then be directed to the Aerial class.

In order to pre-register for the Saturday Lyra class, please sign up for the waitlist.  Once we have the minimum amount of people required to start the class, you will be contacted that the class will open.

This facility is available for 18+ students only.

When you enter the facility for the first time, please fill out The District waiver.

The District membership, for those that would like to access the facility outside of class time, is available for Aqua Acro class members at the discounted rate of $20 a month.

AERIAL INSTRUCTORS

TARA SMARTNICK – GROUND CONTROL TRAMPOLINE PARK

Tara Smartnick is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She began studying dance at the age of three, and holds national titles in Team Dance, Solo Work, and Ballroom Partnering.  In 2005 she moved to LA to continue her education, there she trained with some of the most prestigious teachers and choreographers on the west coast. After high school she moved to Texas to attend college, and earned a degree in Multimedia Technology.

Tara began to study aerial arts in March of 2012 with Aerial Horizon, and believes she found her true calling. She started her professional career performing above Dolphins and Beluga Whales at SeaWorld San Antonio’s show, “Azul” for four years.  In 2016 Tara spent a semester abroad where she was one of twelve participants selected to train with one of Ireland’s biggest aerial dance companies. There she was able to create an act, and refine her artistry on her invented apparatus, an aerial moon.

In 2018 Tara quit her regular jobs to pursue performing full time.  She currently teaches, choreographs, and performs professionally with several companies all over the Southwest United States. Whether it’s dance on the ground, or in the air, Tara enjoys every moment, and hopes to continue this amazing adventure for years to come.

KIM JONES – THE DISTRICT

Kim Jones is an aerial silks and yoga instructor for the Aqua Acro Classes program.  She is a professional performer, working on lyra, silks, pole, lollipop, as well as aquatic performance, included mermaid.  She has performed throughout the United States and internationally.

Kim graduated with honors Texas Christian University in 2011, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art. She competed on TCU’s NCAA Division I women’s swim team. While swimming for the Horned Frogs, Coach Jones was designated as a Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete. An exemplary student, Coach Jones also was the recipient of a Nordan Art Scholarship, and was a member of the TCU Honor Society Artists and Designers. She went on to Louisiana State University, and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree (photography), graduating summa cum laude (with highest honors) in 2015.

She is currently an NCAA swim coach for the Trinity University varsity men’s and women’s swim team.
